It is an academic spin-off of the University of Basilicata, a collaboration between young geologists and the Department of Sciences.

Objectives of the spin-off are the application and publication of academic research results. The services provided by ExtraGEO s.r.l.s. are focused on divulgation of geosciences, promotion and management of geological sites and geotourism.

Founded on the ability to gather specific professional and disciplinary skills, ExtraGEO stands as a subject capable of providing diversified services, responding to the many demands of the geological area. ExtraGEO was set up in Potenza on July 29, 2015, as a limited liability company (LLC) simplified.
